March is Reading Month! To celebrate this event, Cherry Street has several different activities planned for the month.
Beach Bums Kickoff:
Friday, March 3rd, the Beach Bums will be kicking off Reading Month with a short assembly. The kids will learn how to earn free tickets to a Beach Bums' game this summer.
D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read):
A staple event for us. Everyday at different times, we will have the students stop what they are doing and read for 15 minutes. If your child has a favorite book to read, this is a great time for him/her to enjoy that book.
Classroom Competition:
Which class can read the most books? Staff will keep track of the running number of books that students in the class finish. Winning class will have to opportunity to read with flashlights in the basement during Flashlight Reading. WARNING: Some classes have never returned from this....Muh-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaaaa!
Theme Fridays:
Every Friday is a different theme'd activity.
- March 3: Read on your Electronic Day -- Electronics can be used throughout the day to read your favorite books.
- March 10: Dress like a Book Character -- Have a favorite character from a book? Now you can dress like him or her!
- March 17: Hats Off to Reading! -- Enjoy reading in your favorite hat!
- March 23: Flashlight Reading -- A fan favorite! Bring your flashlight to school and read in the dark. The classroom competition winner will have the chance to do this activity in the CSI basement!
Please help us as we encourage our students to read. Feel free to extend some of these activities to your home. Thanks!
